“Wait! I’ve got it.” you declared.
Everyone turned to look at you, and you let the heavy silence hover in the air for a bit for dramatic pause. “The Desperados!”
Prowler gave you a pointed look, while Felicia and Cindy rocked their heads from side-to-side as they gave your decision some consideration. Your eyes locked with Prowler’s, and just for a brief moment, the creases of his eyes crinkled, and you had a feeling that he was hiding a smile under that mask of his.
“I kinda like it.” Cat decided. Cindy nodded her agreement.
Prowler cleared his throat before answering. “Yeah, I guess it’s alright.” he said.
“Then it’s settled!” you proclaimed. “Come back sometime later this week for your complimentary company t-shirts, baseball caps and mugs.”
They denied your suggestion vehemently, and the three of you fell into your usual rhythm of banter. While it was nice to see them again, you were forced to cut your meeting short. Part of it was because you had to go and meet Flint later. The other part was because you had noticed the way that Cindy seemed to withdraw from a conversation that she had no way of meaningfully contributing to. None of you knew sign language, and you weren’t even sure if she did either. That’ll have to change in the future.
-------
Once they were gone, you shot a message to Bobbi and asked her to pick you up. She responded fairly quickly, but it was only to tell you that she couldn’t make it in time. You were saddened by this, but she reassured you with a follow-up message by informing you of a designated replacement that should be there to meet you at your usual spot.
After Cindy had returned with her bag, you picked her up and took to the skies. If you were meeting someone new, you wanted to at least arrive before they did.
—-----
Long minutes passed as you and Cindy waited on the rooftop of a news station. You paced back and forth impatiently, wondering what kind of person Bobbi sent out to meet you. But just then, your Spider-Sense went off. It wasn’t the usual warning “buzz” that you normally get when someone’s trying to shoot you. It felt more like a gentle prodding. You were being watched.
You quickly turned to face whatever it was creeping up on you, only to find a woman with long black hair and a red, skintight bodysuit clinging to a wall behind you. Cindy had clearly just noticed her too, because she was staring in absolute shock at this ridiculous display.
“You’re here early.” she said easily, not showing any signs of hostility or tension in her voice or body language. “Or maybe I’m just late?” she muttered to herself, before abandoning the notion with a shrug.
“Who’re you?” you asked.
Her ruby red lips spread into a smile. “The girl who’s name you stole.”
