>>5397983“Appreciate it, but not yet hun.” you tell her. “I'll need your power to give me a way out, if things get too hairy down there.”
“You're really going down there, down into...That?” she asks, her worry clear both in her voice and all over her face. So you lean over, planting a gentle kiss on her lips for a second or two before pulling back. “Trying to sweep me off my feet won't work this time.”
“Of course. But I'm the only one who CAN.” you answer her, sliding your staff into its concealed spot inside your robe before taking the dragon bone sword in both hands. “I'm going into the midst of their forces, to slow them down while everyone else attacks the side close to the village as usual. Let me know if anything changes on their side, and if you see anything else coming, will you?”
“I will.” Megumin says, reaching out with both arms and hugging you tight for several seconds before pulling herself back. “But, are you sure you want to take that down there? An untested weapon?”
“Hmmmm. You're right.” you reply, setting the weapon down and leaning it against the tower wall. “I should stick with a weapon I'm more attuned to. Blue Flame!”
Calling the name of your magical sword and reaching out with telekinesis, you draw the weapon up directly to you. It shoots up from the floor below you, zipping up the stairwell and flying directly into your open right palm. Blue Flame's hilt hits your hand exactly right, you swinging it behind your back and binding the sheath to your back with a small bit of crystal magic. Once the sheath is secured you draw your weapon in your right hand. This feels better, more right. THIS is your sword, the one you faced down certain death with and survived. No matter what else you fight, it could never compare to that....thing.
“That's more your look hun.” Megumin says, stepping up and kissing you for a few seconds before pulling back. “Please be safe.”
“I will.” you reply, drawing back out your staff in your left before walking to the edge of the crenelations and leaping off of your tower. Then with a thought and whisper of effort take flight, soaring through the darkening skies towards the mass of undead. Who take no notice of your approach, mindlessly marching towards the village. But as you get closer, you see that they are not the simple undead you've faced before. Wearing uniform scraps of cloth and armor that looks as if it was made for them, carrying large, undulating metal swords in their right hands and heavy-seeming tower shields in their left, these undead each easily stand as tall as your old man, or even taller. And as you look down upon them, you suddenly recognize these abominations from your Tome Jergal had bestowed upon you: they're Death Knights!
