Bonding with the other knights the time of a global shared training, Hector met quite an array of interesting people. The recognition of their battle-deeds makes virtually all disbanded errant to go toward them.
Among the twenty-something Errant knights that survived and lost packs, Hector is bewildered of their ability. Maybe this is normal, the trial of Errance already took his toll of the incompetents? Hector was close to die younger and way less experimented, without his bound-dragon.
That's... A lot of knight. And a untold rule of Errance is to avoid being more than ten, eight being already a lot. After all, there is a risk to struggle to find enough food in crossed villages without logistic support and devolve into banditry and extortion. Plus, this grantly improves Mathias' chances of getting a higher position, and maybe with a small amount of training with Sir White, Hector could request his help for more worthy deeds in the rest of Errance.
Stepping forward at the end of practice, Hector address all the Errants :
"Sadly, I could not take all of you in my squad. Even one or two would be a lot... But good news, my dear friend Mathias will create his own squad, feel free to ask him if you want to join."
Mathias gratefully nod at Hector.
"Kyaaaaa Hectorrrrr don't abandon me agaaaaaainn"
Hector recognized this high-pitch. The kid-sized lady, which lack of physical prowess is only matched by her ability to be an annoyance. And she's now glued to Hector's right leg. And one hand is way too close to the codpiece for comfort.
"Hector, I swear one day I'll marry you!"
Hector would rather not. Thankfully, René picks the tick off. If Hector considered taking her with him, this flagrant breach of the Errance code deter him to actually do that. And Hector needs, above all, competent people as Sidridijika might plan an attack on either the undead or the rats in a close future.
Hector choosed, based on physical prowess, Nicolas the mighty Hammer wielder, strong as an Ogre. This one will be useful if any door needs to be rammed in. Secondly, the most skilled fighter turned to be a woman : Claire, with clean parries and decisive lightning-fast strikes. Last, a sharpshooter with a musket packing a real punch, and an impressive aim ability.
Mathias, on his side, is joined first by Lucien and Boniface. It's a bit tearing for all of your to split, but it's for the best. He's joined by Allen, the houndmaster, Raymond, the pick-axe knight, Hyetta the other competent woman, and Gerade, that seems like a really good guy deep inside although a bit socially awkward.
And thus, Hector of Griffinmount squad and Mathias Du Bois squad splits, swearing to tell their mutual high deeds next spring.
