Vasili taps his fingers for a moment. He does not speak, and you think you can see a shit-eating grin creeping up his lips.
Ireena looks back and forth between you and Vasili. It's not intentional, but you can tell your disappointment is palpable on your face.
"I confess..." Vasili says, mocking the command. "I didn't think you had the gall. I hope you are aware, many would see that what you just attempted a direct act of hostility."
"You weren't telling me what I needed to know," you say, your voice low and serious, "to ensure Ireena's safety. I still don't trust you, and neither should Ireena."
"He has been pretty open with me, Aranuel," Ireena says, raising her hands to break the tension. "It's just you who just walked in."
"Ireena, don't you think it's weird how he just appeared out of nowhere, and that he is being so hostile to me?"
"Yes, I do. That's why we've been conversing here in the safety of the inn." You sense an annoyance in her voice now. "Do you really think a stranger could just scoop me up and I wouldn't suspect danger? I have an opinion too!"
"No, I know you're capable," you say. "I just need to help. The only reason I am here in this town to begin with is for you."
"Listen," she says. "I think I should at least entertain Vasili's advice - he is well-spoken, well-mannered, and he tells me he knew my father when he was young, a claim backed up by how familiar he is with my family. Forgive him that he wouldn't share the details with you, you just walked in and we did not have any information about what went on in the burgomaster's mansion."
"Yes, you still should explain," Vasili says. There's a the smug look on his face. "And don't try anything else. I'm not all looks."
Despite your recent actions, you have it in you to be civil. But is now <span class="mu-i">really</span> the time for civility?
