We can convert our partners, mold them as we see fit, universities provide the best ord candidates, we aren't being genocided, have seats of power, and our numbers are sustainable. Why would we rebel when we get all the benefits of being part of the top?” Asks Hellscream as she hands over a classic white and black suit for William to carry.
“But the mage council deciding your limits and your family broke that policy?”
“With enough influence you bribe your way past obstacles or wait it out for a perfect opportunity to come. It is also part of the reason why everyone is busy. Mother keeps tabs on the politician chambers, father in charge of the army training, sister helping the frontier defense, and me being here alone. Keep the blatant exemption out of sight and the mage council goes on with their day.”
“Seems like a lot to keep track of and rarely do your family get a chance to meet.”
“It is but the few times they do visit are special and we would immediately update the checklist.”
“Checklist? I assume you mean super strong student that beats down uppity Animus and Prisma. I'll definitely have that box checked soon.” States William while thinking about giving a wink only to avoid the action not knowing how to make it look natural.
“Pff. You got lucky with Animus so I doubt you can pull it off again.”
“Hey stranger things could happen.”
“I would expect you to come crawling back half dead again rather than kicking another mage’s ass.”
“Isn't that a checkbox?”
“No, as I assumed no ord would have the ability to stand up and fight so I didn't add it. For the checklist it was a series of boxes to be checked off with some being more important than others. White hair was optional and lucky and top of the grading scale since you got in through a scholarship rather than affirmative action.”
“Is there a difference?”
“Of course one is lazy and coasting then the other that is actually studying to be here. Next box is refusing to drop out even after all the mage threats and my humiliation, while smart enough to plan ahead and avoid mage encounters as much as possible.”
“I must have lost my edge.” Winces William remembering he got caught out twice in one week.
“Apparently since before the old you would constantly avoid being caught. So when I got word from an agent that they saw you beaten and bloodied in the dumpster it was a shock. I had to drop my assignment and teleport over and drag you back to the mansion.”
“Just normal mage beatings.”
