Decision to strike at the heart of the enemy cities was a calculated gambit. While in other circumstances it would be risky, extensive orbital bombardment has prepared the battlefield for a deep insertion of your troops with relatively light casualties. When first transporters land, Imperial Guard ground commanders request an additional 6 hour delay before proceeding into the ruins of the bombarded cities due to the fact that in some places the ground is still hot enough from the bombardment to melt the rubber off the guardsman's boots.
Within the first 2 days it becomes clear that at least one of the three cities has been completely subdued. Ranka, once a multimillion city, now is not much more than a charred husk of its former self. Apparently initial bombardment has managed to deactivate life support systems within the first week and because of that reason the lower levels of the city have been without a supply of oxygen and fresh water for the past 21 days. Estimated casualties are around 8 million. Resistance: none.
Meanwhile, the other two cities are nothing more than heaps of rubble on the surface, but subcities of Ardea and Dorog continue to resist as of current moment.
Initial combat successes:
+Dorog+
Control: 3/81 subcity levels
Morale: Fanatical / Terrified
+Ardea+
Control: 1/110 subcity levels
Morale: Fanatical / Shocked
