>>5659958For the assault on the tower, Roxanne and Uriel come to mind. While Sebastian could also fill that niche, the knight lacks the same sort of mobility available to Uriel. His own skillset may be better suited to crashing into the Empire’s infantry once the tower is captured. As for the scouting party, you quickly settle on Milly and Caleb. Besides being amongst the quickest and most dexterous amongst your troop, they both have natural chemistry. If the Alliance does move to attack the Kingdom’s flank, they’ll spot it and report back before they run into any trouble.
>“There is. I’ll have suitable mercenaries available to you for each task.”Rodrigue nods. “Very good. That concludes our meeting. I’ve yet to see a plan that goes off without a hitch, and we find ourselves facing a motived Adrestian army with competent leadership and tacticians behind it. We’ll all be required to keep a certain degree of flexibility and adapt as needed. But if we all play our parts right, we may come out of this on top.”
“We WILL win.” Dimitri corrects his retainer. “We must. For all the pain and suffering that wretched ‘Empress’ has inflicted upon the world. We will revisit it all upon her head tenfold. Let them throw as many of their soldiers against us as they wish.” Dimitri stands and grips the spear on his back; Areadbhar, the Hero’s Relic of House Blaiddyd. “I will slay as many imperial dogs as it takes. They are all guilty. Not a single one of them will escape retribution for the sins that they bear! There will be no stopping my wrath. The voices of the dead will have their vengeance at long last.”
Perhaps in other camps, such a monologue from the army’s commander might have inspired a roaring round of applause and cheers. Some sort of affirmation that the soldiers and officers present were fully behind their leader, if not in mind at least in practice. However, there’s hardly so much as a peep here. Everyone from Faerghus bears a determined look, but behind it, you can sense what can only be described as exhaustion. How long has Dimitri been like this, and how long have these people had to humor him? All those long years holding their true thoughts to themselves, afraid to offend or betray their King, simply grinning and bearing it. Perhaps Sebastian was right. And he wasn’t the only one. Ashe would never be able to justify to himself his decision to join the Dukedom. But in this moment, even though you’d never say it aloud, you were glad he deserted these people. What good was it to die for a King who had long since abandoned his sense? You once found such notions of chivalry inspiring. But now…
“We resume our march.” Rodrigue continues. “We shall arrive to Gronder within the next day. Make your final preparations, and may the Goddess see us all to victory.”
