You’ve never bought anyone a gift—that’s probably what it is. Gift-giving, except as some form of tribute or debt-repayment, is unknown in the culture of the master Race. You strongly suspect that any gift will be a source of suspicion and confusion for the Dragonblooded Infiltrator, coming from a social superior. Part of you fears he’ll resent it—as, after all, he resents your conception and existence.
Why do it at all, then? Well, love, obviously. It isn’t just about romance, or even family. It’s about community. That was what you resolved, when you set out on the path of Dragon King. Roth was important to your mother, and he’s served the Master Race and the Dark Gods loyally for decades—maybe a century, though the limited senescence of a Pureblooded One makes it difficult to be sure of his precise age. He deserves to know the love of his people, and to be assured of his place in the New World Order.
“Thisss will do,” you say.
“Oh?” the halfling merchant from whom you purchase the wares smiles. “You moved here with your family, did you? Took you for an adventurer type.”
You don’t bother to explain yourself, simply proffering some of the coin your brought from Bloodrise. In exchange, you receive a handcrafted porcelain drinking-cup with a small handle—a ‘mug’ you are told—and a selection of floral herbs which you know to be safe for Reptilian consumption and pleasant to smell. The mug says ‘World’s Greatest Dad’. You can’t attest to Roth’s quality as a father in the sense you believe it is meant to convey—mentor and guide, presumably, as you are to Glowie’s wyrmlings when you can make the time—but you owe your lineage from the Red Dragon King to Roth. Without him, you would have no dragonblood at all, and that’s worth some recognition.
