The briefing would be given by Major Zavrazin himself.
“Mercenaries, some of you may be aware of this but our long-ranged comms are being jammed. This means we have no way of co-ordinating with friendly units in the region or appraising high command of the developing situation. Without our comms we are isolated and as long as we remain isolated it is only a matter of time before the Neromians encircle us and wipe us out.”
The screen switched to showing a map.
“This is hill 96, our signals detachment has traced the source of the jamming to this area. A standard jamming set up would have the jammer placed on the top of the hill with multiple SAM sites positioned in the surrounding area to deter air strikes, not that we can call in any at this time. The Neromians think we are reeling and are unlikely to expect a counter attack so soon. I taking a chance and hoping there won’t be any resistance stiffer than infantry pickets and the odd mega-cav. However given that the AO is heavily forested you might unexpectedly run into enemy patrols and mines. Do not allow yourself to become bogged down. I suggest using tanks with dozer blades to clear a path through the forest or deploying recon drones to detect hidden enemies. While the initial enemy presence might be light there’s no telling what will converge on your position once they detect your presence. Get in there, destroy the jammer and get out.”
“I apologise that you will have to undertake this mission without proper intel, but time is of the essence. It’s not much but I’ve sent a recon platoon to accompany you into the AO. The jammer will stop the functioning of your sensors but your short-ranged comms and data links should still work.”
