To your surprise, Pandora actually smiled at you. She then grabbed her wand, waved it through the air and muttered something under her breath. The air around her rippled and shifted, causing her to disappear completely!
You looked around frantically, wondering where she had gone, only to learn that she was still standing directly in front of you when you activated your “Slip-vision”.
“Leave the door open behind you when you walk back to the mansion.” she said, still holding her wand in her right hand.
You frowned slightly, wondering whether Rintrah and Nico’s wards would prevent her from entering while her invisibility enchantment was active. Ultimately, you were more curious than wary when it came to testing out the ward’s capabilities. You’ve never actually seen someone try to enter the mansion like this, and you couldn’t resist the opportunity to treat this like a test run.
So, you gave her a nod and began walking back to the mansion. And…nothing happened. Pandora said nothing, and there was no grand effect from the ward that you could detect. Whether you were relieved, surprised or disappointed, you couldn’t tell immediately. It was a rather complicated emotion to decipher at this very moment, so you decided to wait and see what would happen when you reached the front door.
You swung the door open and entered the sitting room once more, leaving it open behind you. The others shot curious glances your way as you shot a web at the door and pretended to pull it closed, when it was really your invisible guest performing the action.
You glanced briefly at Madame Webb to see whether she detected the invisible intruder, but if she did, she was masking her surprise better than some of the professional liars and scumbags you’ve worked with.
If you didn’t know any better, you might’ve said that she couldn’t detect Pandora with her mind-sense at all. Maybe the Director of WAND knew some trick to hide herself from other telepaths.
Putting the thought out of your head, you returned to Dmitri’s side without a word to the others. As far as you could tell, Pandora was still silently trailing behind you, clearly used to infiltration missions like this. At this very moment, you couldn’t help but feel jealous of her and Sam, who could more or less pull this off whenever they wanted. Being able to go invisible would make your life so easy to the point of trivializing your problems.
When you re-entered the Chameleon’s room, he showed no signs of noticing Pandora’s presence either. He did seem curious as to why your lenses had shifted to an entirely pitch black color, but he didn’t comment on it.
“What happened?” he asked in that accented, gravely voice of his.
“Just setting up a few deals. Hopefully, this’ll be the last time we ever meet.” you said, making room for Pandora to move past you in the door before closing it. “With luck, you won’t remember anything about me at all.”
