“Hm?” The brown-haired girl looks up.
“I… think I could do it.” Clover fiddles with her fingers. “Wolves aren’t strangers to killing those that endanger their pack. So… I could do it, if I needed to.” She pauses. “But I’d hope I could understand why she did it… nobody kills for no reason.”
Melissa’s eyes soften. “Clover…” She scoots her chair closer, then pats her shoulder. “Look, I get it. You want to do the right thing. But it’s okay. You won’t ever have to do… that.” She offers a brief smile. “Don’t worry about it. There is no magical girl killer, okay?” Her voice trembles slightly at the end. She looks down. “…This world really is messed up, huh.”
Clover doesn’t respond.
Melissa stares at her lap, then scrunches her face tightly. “Listen. I’ll give you some advice, okay. And this advice is really gonna suck because you’re a good kid, but since I don’t know if anything’s going to happen, I’d rather you be prepared for the real world.” The former detective takes a deep breath, before looking up and staring at the wolf-girl with a steely gaze. “If there was a killer, and if you ended up having to face her… don’t bother trying to understand her. It won’t help you. She’s not human.” The girl looks away. “That’s it.”
>…huh.
