In your mind dwells the words of the Namekian. Kalabash and his daughter helped him and Raditz, it seems. You have not had a chance to converse with them since the trip started. Gisa and Oshe have been showing themselves a little more throughout the ship, having casual conversations with Bulma and Calava, while Rokka and Kalabash usually hung out with Nappa, Raditz or, sometimes, even Turles.
You see all four of them visiting the bridge. The children are learning what goes in a spaceship from Gisa, while Kalabash watches them with a warm smile on him. When he sees you, it wanes into a more serious expression. “Prince Vegeta.”
“Kalabash.” You say. “The Namekian has told me that you offered them support during the battle against Frieza’s forces.”
He looks back towards his family, arms crossed. “So it is. Even Rokka intervened, though I told her not to.”
“She has the stubbornness of a Saiyan.” You say, looking at the young girl, she has a long, unkempt black mane flowing, Oshe has a shorter, shaven hair and is much thinner and smaller than his sister. Some of it is due to age and some of it is clearly due to a different growth.
“Aye.” Kalabash bites his nails a little bit. “She is too plucky, you haven’t seen it, but I’ve seen her fight against foes much more powerful than her to defend us. She’s like a guard animal.”
The thought of that makes you smile slightly. You watch the girl approach her father, she watches you with a glare and her voice rings out. “Don’t think I trust you just because you’re a ‘prince’.” She says.
You chuckle while Kalabash slaps her on the back of the head. “Show some respect, girl.”
“That is well.” You say. “Trust your father, then.”
Her glare furrows further as she caresses her pained head. “Whatever.” She says, heading back to her mother’s side.
“So… This resistance.”
“I told you all I know, prince.” Kalabash says. “I was only a lower ranking member in it.” He scratches his chin in thought. “Taliso, that is Calava’s father-” You nod, indicating there is no need to specify that again. “Well, he would’ve known more.”
“How come you were to one to keep Calava after his death?”
“We kept in comms ever since the resistance fell, 20 years ago, we lived only a few days of space travel apart, just in case. Back then Calava was just 7 so she didn’t completely get what was going on. He trained her hard until… Well, a Frieza hunting party found them. I don’t have the specifics, but I got a desperate call from Taliso 10 years ago, asking me to come save his daughter while he distracted them.”
You move the corner of your mouth, irritated. How many similar stories have other Saiyans lived for so many years?
