While Sawyer has always been a little odd, she's never been so outwardly...judgmental like this.
You try to tell Etsy to leave with the pills and that you need to stay behind to talk something out with Sawyer.
"No! I- I mean, if it's something you need to uhm...discuss, why can't I be here?" Etsy protest. You suppose you'd feel left out too if she told you to leave without her.
Sawyer tries her best to go back to her usual cheerful demeanor, but it's pretty clear that it's forced. "It's okay, you don't need to keep me company, I'm sure you two are very busy after all."
You try to extract some more information out of her, but she keeps evading the questions.
As you get another message from your boss, you realize you may be out of time.
Etsy grabs her pills, and you tell her you have to leave for your job. She's clearly uncomfortable with leaving you so soon, but she doesn't stop you.
"I, uhm, I'll try to see if I can find something. I'm sure some of my old designs could s-sell enough to support us for a while, maybe. I just hate dealing with the paperwork, and corpo-speak...ah, they might ask me for my portfolio too, what do I even...?"
You tell her you'll figure it out together, what she makes is sure to sell for a lot, the main issue is not getting ripped off and attracting the wrong kind of attention.
As you leave for work, you notice a lot more of what you assume is magic around you. Most people seem to have letters and weird colors surrounding them, some of them have none at all. The more of it you see, the more things start to make sense.
(Magical Pattern Recognition can now somewhat understand someone's magical ability and quirks if you've spent a certain amount of time with them.)
MPR (Mona): Real name: Mammona. Immense magic potential. Can claim things depending on multiple factors, however she can lose that claim if someone exerts a stronger will over it. Much weaker when in a place she doesn't own.
MPR (Sawyer): Cursed. High magic potential. Can see the best possible future for someone and how to reach it.
You're glad your ability doesn't feel like random words anymore, although it feels like what you've learned is not all there is to know about their magic, it's a start.
You still wish you could throw fireballs or something, but you're still happy that you get magic at all.
