Dejected and about to give up, you're near the ass end of Threespice, as far away from the main docks as you can get, when an odd feeling creeps into you. Your chest feels tight, and there's a growing unease in your gut. Your eyes catch sight of a lone stall at the end of the line, all other foot traffic giving it a wide berth - you easily surmise that it must be where this unease is coming from, and your suspicion is confirmed as the unease becomes more intense when you step closer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgSCiMKG5EMWhat you thought were shadows clinging to the walls and boxes stacked around the stall shifts, and it becomes readily apparent that you're looking at a dark mass of robes attached to a figure much too large to be an ordinary human - larger than even you. A bone white mask peeks out at you, and a blackened hand tipped with talons more suited to a bird of prey digs into its robes and wraps around a vial. The creature before you pops the cap on said vial and quickly brings it up to its own mouth, quaffing whatever substance appeared to be inside - a brief tingling sensation up your spine seems to suggest it could have been an Ether.
"This one...welcomes you, customersss..." It hisses out, and Val puts a hand out to stop both you and Ramza from moving forward.
"Don't approach it. This thing is a Demon." He warns, one of his hands clearly on his pistol. The Demon in question stares at him for a few moments, before hacking out a mix between a laugh and a cough.
"This one...isss indeed a demon...this one...has sinned greatly..." The profane merchant admits, almost in a forlorn tone. "But this one...poses no harm...to you or any other...as long as no harm is brought to this one..."
"So you're saying, what, you won't kill anyone if they don't try to kill you first?" You ask. It seems to nod at that. "Oh, good! Then we shouldn't have any problems then."
"Gigas!" Val says. "Are you kidding me? Demons prey on humans, just like monsters!"
"Then why isn't this one?" Ramza asks, looking thoughtful. "It hasn't been killed by anyone yet. The guards have let it be. Why's that, you think?"
"You are a sssmart one, indeed...this one has learned from the mistakes of its past...this one knows that it might be capable of killing a hundred humans, but they would slay this one in turn...strength without allies is...pointless..." It hisses out. "And...believe it or not...it is not illegal in thisss country, to be a Demon. Merely to attack humans..."
Val doesn't seem particularly happy about it, but he slowly lowers his arm. He does keep one hand on his pistol though, clearly still wary of it.
"What do you sell, then?" Ramza asks with a frown.
"Magical tools of all kinds...enchantment services...catalysts, plentiful...and a few other odds and ends, depending on your needsss..." It gestures widely at the assortment of knicknacks piled around it.
