The eyes of everyone were upon Lucian as he rode out of the stables upon the back of Nightshade. He, who was of modest height, was now the tallest person in the entire fortress. What they were now witnessing was to a Knight upon his steed. A Bretonnian Knight in almost his full glory. A Questing Knight who was marching forth towards what was certain doom to bring down the greatest foe the people of Albion have yet to face.
The glory was not lost upon Nightshade, who basked in it with a rustling of her mane and her head ever the tallest. Every step the steed took sounded through the fortress with certainty and purpose. A declaration that they were noble and powerful!
Lucian was not the least bit surprised when Bok had already risen and was now walking next to them. The Kroxigor must have felt it in the air, that things were changing and that travel was upon them. Just as a child who riding in a cart would awaken at their destination, he felt the changing of the tides that told him they were to move.
As for the people he cared nothing for it. He simply marched forward as if he was a puppet who was being given perfect instruction by the puppeteer.
As the Knight looked up he saw the Baron standing above him. The man looked skeptical as he stood above the barely repaired gates that were only held together by the hope of the people within the fortress. His bearing, while filled with the weight of a warworn leader who could barely put any faith in the actions of a single man, raised his hand into the air to bring the attention of all to him.
“Lucian of Bretonnia,” He declared as he tightened his hand into a fist, “Swear to me that you will bring down Grimidal and save our keep or die trying. As all are witnessed here, upon your success, that tales of your heroism will be sung until the End Times.”
“I swear upon Morr and the Lady that I shall bring Grimidal down!” Lucian did not hesitate as he slammed his hand against his chest.
“Then may the gods protect you upon your journey.” Answered the Baron as the makeshift ruined gates slowly opened to release Lucian back into the world.
