The Shadow has effectively screwed off, that's a sign. Is it a good one? Either this stairway to God-knows-what is a natural Demon deterrent(Good!) or so bad even Demons are afraid of it(Bad!).
There isn't a lot of time left, and this may be a way out of the Stardust race, which after the massive trek here, is almost a guaranteed loss.

Various trees twist together in a perfect circular 'cropping' of this strange new local, each tree with copper roots and red leaves. The ground itself is ashy, almost white and opens to a pink lake. The water looks... thin, almost like cloud-stuff.
A dock, constructed of the redwood, leads a few feet over the lake, where a 'man' is sitting on a stool. A long hood covers his head, extending onward as though he had a beak. In his wrinkled, scaly hands is a fishing rod. He slowly looks up at you, and JJ emerging shortly after.
