>>5311094You most certainly worry about what the girl considers to be “enough” but manage to push the thought to the back of your head. Your party departs, heading into the forest between Charon and Garreg Mach. Accompanying you are a dozen knights of Charon, each of them mounted. True to Bertram’s word, he takes your suggestion, and makes sure to bring an adequate number of mages and archers with the group. With everyone mounted, you’re able to cover huge swathes of ground in your hunt for the Prince. You yourself, take to the skies. While you’re an open target for any keen-eyed archer, you’re able to spot any disturbances or strange occurrences far before anyone else in your group can. Hence, after a day of scouring the forest, you’re the first to spot the rundown tower in the distance, as well as a large flock of birds doing their best to distance themselves from it. You quickly land and report your findings to Sir Bertram, who sends some of his men further ahead to investigate. After a short while, they return, with Caleb at the lead.
“It’s the Imperial Army, alright.” He says. “I count about three dozen soldiers in total. They’re in the process of trying to get into what appears to have been some sort of old military fort. Whoever’s inside though doesn’t seem to be keen on having any visitors. The doors barred shut and there’s quite a few Imperial corpses carpeting the staircase.”
“Fort Highwind.” Sir Bertram confirms. “It’s been abandoned for quite a few years now, but the walls are still sturdy. It would certainly provide adequate cover for anyone in need of a place to hole up. Did you happen to get a good luck at who the Imperial Army was after?”
Caleb shakes his head. He appears to have found a leaf of some sort that he’s using to pick his teeth. “No clue. The only corpses belonged to the Imperials. As for the ones that are still breathing, the majority of them are infantry soldiers, with a few armor knights, and a handful of mages. They don’t have any siege equipment with them, hence why they’re having such a hard time breaking in. Though with the state of the fort, I imagine it shouldn’t take them much longer. Especially if they get reinforcements.” You’re impressed that he was able to deduce all of that from a short visit. Corrine was right. Caleb and his companions seem to be far better soldiers than clowns.
“Just like you said.” Sir Bertram says, turning to you. “Well then, I’ll defer to you again. What do we do? We don’t know if this is the Prince for sure. And we’re outnumbered.”
