Another cluster of TFA noise accelerating rapidly between its location and ours, probability that it’s our ten missing torpedoes is at 96%.”
“On screen please, Ms EoN and give me a system overlay, Mr Skyeskal!” You order, professionally.
“Of course, Sir.”, “Way ahead of you, Captain.” The adept replies come almost as quickly as the main screen lights up with the system map. Steadily blinking icons quickly populate the display, indicating the location of the TPN Coober Pedy and the calculated positions and vectors of the detected SCRAM signals.
“What do you make of it, Mr La’afette?” You address your Tactical officer next, looking for insight on how best to tackle the rapidly approaching problem.
The Laedra takes a moment to respond, likely running through each scenario before settling on what he considers the most likely conclusion. “From visual inspection and demonstrated performance I can only conclude that our opponent’s torpedoes are likely at least as sophisticated and powerful as our own, if not more so.” He begins methodically, in an almost monotone voice.
“ETA is twenty five minutes if they maintain an average of point two cee. I give counterbattery interception even odds of success should we choose the nuclear option. Less so with conventional munitions. Launching now, I anticipate interception within fifteen minutes. Time enough to launch a second volley at short range should we wish.”
His report finished, your tactical officer returns to running simulated interceptions on his console, leaving the decision in your hands.
“Captain,” Isobel takes the opportunity to speak, “Medical reports the first batch of weapon techs you ordered unfrozen are at their stations in the aft torpedo bays. Apparently it's still a mess in the magazine back there so you’ll only have what’s currently in the tubes for that half of the ship.”
You bring up the tactical display for your weapon systems on your command console, assessing the situation for yourself. The holo display shows you the usual range of ordnance is currently locked and loaded in each of the torpedo bays, with the forward magazine holding another two full volleys ready in reserve. Your ever cautious Father has left an even mix of offensive and defensive torpedo loadouts throughout the 40 total tubes your voidship boasts. Your Tactical training lets you quickly determine your interception options are as follows:
Long range:
- 8x LRC3 torpedoes - Long range, SCRAM capable, 3x Conventional sprint missiles.
- 8x LRF torpedoes - Long range, SCRAM capable, Nuclear Fusion Warhead - shape configurable.
Short Range:
- 8x SRC6 - Short range, 6x Conventional sprint missiles.
- All long range options can also be used at short range.
