>>5890141You take a few moments to find the right words within yourself, and your two squad mates patiently wait for you to speak. "....I'm a native Earthnoid. I know the colony drop killed a horrible amount of people, and I'm sure a lot of soldiers in the Federation forces have lost at least one person from that day. But.. I'm from Sydney. I was there. Or.. almost. Or.. I should have been. I don't know."
Your hands begin to shake from the recollections, and you do your damn best to keep the tears back. You shut your eyes tightly, and when you open them again as you continue your story, you see your older sister's face as it was a few days before the colony drop. Her long brown hair was tied into a messy ponytail, and she's talking to you about her wedding plans. She's been up for days making sure everything goes smoothly, and it's showing. Your mother was watching TV in the living room, listening to news coverage of Zeon's declaration of war and subsequent attacks. It was terrible sure, but it seemed like such a faraway problem that it couldn't possibly affect you from here, in this little corner of the world. The Federation will take care of it, anyway.
"...The seamstress is in Brisbane, she finished the wedding dress and the pictures look absolutely perfect! She offered to ship it in first class priority mail, but I don't know if I trust it.. I've lost packages before, and I can't risk it. Maybe.. maybe I'll fly over and pick it up myself, I can leave in the morning and schedule some late night flight, that way I can be back in time to help with organizing the venue the next day.." your sister says, partly to you, mostly to herself as she plans out loud.
"No way, that's too much! I'll pick up the dress, I've got nothing going on anyway. Just stay here and rest, you've got a lot to do anyway." You offer. Brisbane's only a short flight away, and it would be nice to contribute to your sister's big day.
She looks at you and thinks, running some imaginary simulations in her head as she weighs the possibilities. "That would free me up to get catering figured out.. are you sure? It's no bother?"
You nod and place your hands on her shoulder. "I promise it's not. You always take everything on yourself, let me do at least this much for you. It'll be nice to get out of the house anyway."
Your sister gives you a big smile and an even bigger hug. "Ohhh, you're a life saver, J! Thank you thank you thank you! Oh, you should ask Diana to come with you! Your anniversary is coming up soon, right? I'll give you some extra spending money, take her out somewhere nice! It's the least I can do for this."
