Despite all the attention on you–despite all the sudden arrivals and everything around you exploding, you found yourself reflecting on your mother's words of wisdom.
“There is always time for prayer. You just had to make it.”
You closed your eyes, and time seemed to slow. A sad smile formed under your mask, and your attention turned inward.
“Oh, Father. I need your help. Your Hunter's Moon…needs your help.” you pleaded.
“I am always with you, my child.” Khonshu answered, his bony hand resting on your shoulder from a place unseen.
“Khonshu–who is the Defender. The Embracer. The Traveler. The Pathfinder. My guiding light on the darkest of nights.” you continued.
“What is it that you would ask of me, my child?”
“Show me how to use your gift. Guide me to victory against the archer.” you requested.
“It shall be done, my child. If you only ask to see the path to victory, then all you must do is open your eyes to it.”
You slowly opened your eyes, and saw an illuminated path running between you and the archer that hadn’t been there before. Time began to flow at a normal speed once more, and you could tell that Khonshu’s attention was no longer fixated solely on you.
However, you swore that you could still feel a firm, reassuring pressure on your shoulder. Your god was always with you. He walks with you, guiding your steps, both in and out of combat.
You took a step and calmly observed as a cluster of three arrows with electrified tips hurtled towards you. Your mummy hand twitched, eager to act on your behalf. You relaxed your arm, and allowed it to do as it pleased.
With sharp, rigid motions, your arm deftly blocked each and every one. The arrowheads sank into your arm with a dull sound of punctured cloth. You heard Ben shouting behind you, but you remained calm as you watched the arrows sink deeper and deeper into your arm, until the bandages swallowed them completely. You felt no pain, and barely any discomfort from that attack.
You continued walking as sound flooded back into the battlefield, flexing your hand a few times, just to make sure that it was still in working condition. You still had no idea what this thing did, but you decided that it was okay not to know everything. If Khonshu made it for you, then you could trust it.
You broke into a dead sprint, tucking your head to the side to avoid another arrow. More ships were swinging around to intercept you, various weapons emerging from hidden compartments to aim at you. They appeared to be non-lethal–-bola launchers and energy nets. Whoever these people were, they were going through great lengths to capture you alive.
You wouldn’t give them the chance, and neither would Ben.
