>"Thank you for the offer, but I must refuse. I'm just struggling with a moment of weakness. Perhaps you could tell me how you came to know the Emperor ? The tale would certainly help to inspire me."
The Emperor's self-fashioned High Priest took his hand off of me and he walked to the left somewhat.
[THANDIR] "Thou wouldst ply mine analects for thine own boulevard of conviction... Very well. I shalt elucidate thee with these words thus."
Thandir turned to me, both arms risen.
[THANDIR] "In that time, in that old day, that time so far away from now; The time we called the Kreide. The first god came upon his fellow men, bringing with him luster and power to enliven the lands and people. Cloaked in bright yellows, he was a god among mankind, to whom we gave our fealty."
[THANDIR] "His name was Huangdi. He was our Xanthous Emperor. His Xanthous colors enshrouded us, bringing warmth to coldness. The hearth of his heart was able to lift up our heads, and vanquish all sadness. He cased over our world, seeing the trite foolishness of man. Such a trifling creature is man, and in this light he created a spark in his hands and threw it to the skies above. Thus, the Sun came to be, breaking apart the clouds with brilliant rays. Humans looked up, like the curious creatures they are, at the one who had first seen all walks of life before any other, and saw in its overpowering rays the Xanthous color, and Huangdi."
[THANDIR] "A world without order, yae. A world of suffering, plagued by all that which man can create. Chaos. War. Suffering. Hunger. Famine. Disease. All a man art capable of is Death, and it was their inner discord that hath gave rise to the Afterseas. Their souls will flow into the abyss, and it is there in the depths that never stop sinking, they shall see only Terror forevermore. And Huangdi, his heart felt for them. Alone, a man can only bring his own demise and suffering. Without the Emperor, we art nothing but SLUGS."
[THANDIR] "To shepherd their souls, he created me and gave me this all-seeing trishula, that I might peer into all souls. Possessing no idea of mine existence and purpose, I was left bereft of wisdom and wondered afoul, wandering this wonderful world aimlessly. I wreaked havoc, I sowed despair, I knew no better. Souls that offended me were smote. I smite and I smite and I smite, yet without any apparent reason. Only stopping when my victims raise their hands and ask me the question. Why?"
Thandir tightened his grip on his trishula.
[THANDIR] "Didst I answer? No. I could not, for I had never known the answer. Enraged, at my own inability to tell why I did what I do, I charged Heaven itself and I came before Huangdi. The man was gentle, allowing me to even hoist him in a rage and demand to know!"
