So, you continue, clearing your throat to signal a change in topic, what’s his thoughts on ‘Artie’ anyways? Y’know, since everybody LOVES him now!
“Y’know what, kid? Yer’ takin’ dis’ VICE OFFICER thing real well, ya’ know dat’?”
You blink. Really?
“No, not really.” Ly responds flatly. “But ta’ answer yer’ question, I think he’s a good fit. Better den’ some of da’ others, at least.”
Maybe so, you shrug, but is he more qualified than Lil’ Stanley? Truly?
“Of course he is, you moron.” Ly groans, clearly not eager to head down this road. “The guy’s been wit’ us since da’ beginnin’ an’ has everyone’s best interests at heart–dat’s good enough for me.”
Sure, you counter, but what if he’s, like, just trying to show off for Syb?
“Oh no,” Ly sighs, “Anything but dat’.”
You get the feeling he isn’t being genuine here.
“I got no clue how those two are gonna do after dis’ is all over, but I’m rootin’ for ‘em. I really am.”
Yea well, you mutter, they can save the friggin’ wedding for later!
“Ya’ know… there is one thing that bugs me about da’ guy, though…” Ly continues with a conflicted tone in his voice, “An’ if it was anyone but Art, I’d be a bit more suspicious, but…”
But what, you growl! He brought it up, so he might as well just spit it out!
“Just… just don’t go tellin’ him what I think or anything, alright?” Your bones reply with renewed seriousness! “I don’t wanna start a witch hunt or anythin-”
He’s gonna be the subject of a BITCH HUNT if he doesn’t spill the beans in ten seconds!
“Cripes, fine!” Snaps your skeleton indignantly! “Okay so look: no one’s happier dat’ Art’s alive than me, alright? Back in da’ forest back there, well…” He pauses, allowing you to briefly return to that firefight in the woods, “But wit’ all dis’ TRAITOR talk an’ all… an’ again: there’s no way I’m onta’ somethin’ here-”
You arrive at Ly’s conclusion a few seconds early. He… he’s not suggesting Art faked that whole story, is he?
“I got no doubts dat’ he ran into Gus,” Ly explains, “An’ I was there when da’ guy took da’ grenade,” He adds. “But despite all da’ crazy stuff we’ve run into in da’ last few days, there’s a teeny, tiny sliver of me dat’ doubts his story. Microscopic, even.”
And now that doubt has spread to you. You can’t decide what you want to do more: punch Ly or let him continue...
>CONTD.
Alright, guess we’re doing that then, jerk!
