“My family’s in trouble. I need you to track them down for me so Rintrah can portal them to safety.”
Julia cursed and started fumbling with something. “I’m on it. Hopefully they’ve still got their phones on them.”
“My brother and best friend were teleported somewhere during their encounter. I’m not sure if that’ll mess with your search.” you reported.
“It might. If they don’t have location data turned on, then we might have to wait for their phones to send out a ping. Just need to figure out what their last ping interval was…”
“Do you need their numbers, or something?” you asked.
Julia let out a snort. “No, I’ll just pull the info off of your phone. Duh.”
Yeah, you should’ve seen that coming. You were going to have to have a conversation with her about boundaries sometime later.
“Fine. Let me know when you’ve got something. We need to track down Vic and Pete too.” you said. “Oh, and have Rintrah call Pandora. I might need her help at ESU.”
“Why? What’s happening at ESU?” she asked.
“There may or may not be an army of killer robots headed there right now.”
“I’m starting to see why Webb is freaking out right now.” Julia hissed. “I’ll take care of it. Just sit tight and stay alive.”
“Trust me. I’m not gonna be the one that dies tonight...”
And before Julia could question you, you switched over to Warren and pocketed your phone, hoping that he was somewhere near his. It took a few tries, but he eventually picked up, sounding clearly panicked.
“The signal blocker! It’s been sabotaged!” he exclaimed. “My defense grid has been completely crippled.”
You’d hate to say you told him so…
“Warren, listen to me. You’re never going to be able to repair that thing in time. I need you to kill those spiders before the Spider Slayers get there. Without them, they won’t be able to latch onto the frequency properly.” you demanded
“And ruin everything I’ve worked for? Are you insane!?” Warren said, sounded appalled by the idea.
“No. ‘Insane’ would be letting those robots tear that campus apart just to kill a few lab experiments.” you argued. “There are other spiders out there, Warren. If those robots get there, then it might jeopardize your entire cloning gig, along with every student and staff member that might still be around. I need you to do the right thing here.”
For a while, there was only silence on the other end of the line, until eventually, he let out a weary sigh.
“...Fine. I’ll kill…one spider. The one that I used to give Abel his abilities.”
“Warren…”
“It might be possible to salvage the spider that was used to create W! Her ability is far more valuable, and if we could somehow replicate my success…!”
“WARREN!”
