>“Very well. I suppose you’ll be asking for a fee again?” “Consider this one free of charge.” She smiles. “It’s the least I can do.” Yara unpacks the pipe she’d been smoking, and reaches into a different pouch at her side, retrieving some sort of dried, crushed leaf. Packing it into her pipe, she heats it by the fire, and then smokes from it. From within her breast, she removes the same deck of playing cards you’d seen her use the last time she told your fortune. As you have no familiarity with Duscur or its culture, you’re unable to make out what any of the illustrations or writings mean. She lays out cards in front of her in a trancelike state. She remains silent as she pulls card after card out and arranges them in a straight order. Once done, she peers into the fire, and begins speaking.
“A great beast stands before you. It bears seven ferocious, monstrous heads, though one lies to the side, dead. Four of the heads are staring in separate directions, their attention fixated on something. The remaining two stare directly at you though. They will devour you, if given the opportunity.”
>“I see…”“You stand before a great, mountainous castle. Its defenders hurtle insults at you from behind its walls, shocked and appalled by your actions. They know exactly who you are and will spare no expense to stop you from reaching the inside.”
>“Right…”“I see a large tower, overlooking a vast, red canyon. Pilgrims from all over Fodlan have flocked here for salvation. They beg at the feet of a false prophet, hoping to be saved from the end of the world. Instead, they will only fuel it.”
>You sigh. “As per usual, none of this is exactly illuminating.”Yara smiles. “If my services are not appreciated, perhaps the Commander would like to try seeing for herself?”
>“You mean you want me to smoke that?” You point to the pipe Yara is holding. “I thought one needed to be a professional…uhh, fortune teller, to make any use of that thing.”“It’s called Dreamleaf. It opens up my soul to the spirits around us, which then show me visions of what is yet to come. The spirits need not only speak to those of Duscur though. Through use of a ritual, trained shamans may serve as a guide for outsiders who wish to commune with the spirits themselves. It’s called a Vision Quest. They can be quite illuminating for those who embark on them. With some time and preparation, I can acquire more Dreamleaf once we arrive back to Derdriu and prepare for the ritual. If you’re interested, of course.”
