There's no hint of sarcasm in his voice when he says that. He really does want to make sure you're happy.
"No, no, I was just kinda shocked! Z-Company isn't a struggle? Your new powers aren't messing with you?"
[BLIND OPTIMISM] "Nicole. The power I have is literally all I ever wanted ever since I met you. Sure, I get tired when I use it but it's an anomalous power! That's cool as heck!" You can't help but to feel your heart warm up. The excitement and joy in his voice is infectious.
"Heh. I wish I could say I'm jealous but you do only have one power right now. Might get harder once your spark develops."
"So what? I'm more than willing to accept whatever happens with it. I knew the risks when I asked for that ICP syringe; Hell! Not the first time I self medicated."
You really, really do want to understand how he's able to be this happy. The only one you know who could rival his optimism is Casey and Casey...is <span class="mu-i">Casey</span>
"Damn, okay. Almost feels like you're the one giving me the peptalk here." You chuckle at the situation you find yourself in. "No but seriously, how's work with Z-Corp been?"
"Eh! So-so. When I can actually make drugs and have them tested with willing participates, it's basically my life dream made manifest. The paperwork is the only thing I can complain about but Max helps me a LOT with that."
The smile he has fades a bit. He gestures at you to sit down with him by the train platform. The two of you do so, sitting right next to each other.
"I'll be honest here. I can admit my life wasn't the best when I was all by myself. I'm not dumb. But when you have actual happiness, when everything in the world is right, when you have everything you want..."
"You have to stop worrying about the small things, you know? I know my powers could overwhelm me if I'm not careful. I know how risky these mission are. I know that the companies probably aren't the best. But if I worry about all of those things then I can't enjoy what I have right now."
"You don't regret anything? There's nothing you wish you could've done differently?" You suppose you shouldn't be shocked he's the one handling himself the best out of the five here. He really does have everything he could want.
"Who doesn't have regrets? Who doesn't wish things could be different? But I know wasting my time worrying about that does nothin'." Benjamin clicks his tongue as he thinks on what he should say next. "Happiness is something you have to fight for, Nicole."
