Without most of your usual gadgets, you felt woefully underprepared for an encounter of this magnitude. You might be able to squeak out a win with Ben and Ana's help, but…
You glanced back at the Limbo demon, her mask's fake eyes staring pleadingly back at you.
Maybe you wouldn’t need to resort to violence this time. Marc did say that you were in a unique position to reason with the creatures of the night, rather than punch their lights out and drive a stake through their heart.
“I'll try.” you promised, placing a hand on the fake werewolf's shoulder.
Then, you dove into the fray, jumping over the heads of the fleeing civilians and towards the growing cloud of debris. As soon as you got closer, though, both monsters sprang into view–as if they'd been there all along and you just weren't looking from the right angle.
On the left, there was a large black creature with sharp spines and ridges trailing down its back and lining the outside of its muscular forearms. Segmented blue lines flowed from his neck, down to the rest of his body, and its eyes and mouth glowed with a similar light. It looked to be about 25 feet tall, with a narrow face, a thick neck and a hunched posture. The creature that you assumed to be “Hi-Vo” seemed to be the source of all that light and noise earlier.
On the right, you saw a giant, 30 foot gargoyle. There wasn't any other way to describe it.
“I'm guessing you're Gorgolla.”
Both monsters turned to stare at you in shock. And because he looked away, Hi-Vo got smacked in the face by Gorgolla's tail.
The big guy fell over with a thud. You winced and gave him an apologetic wave.
“Sorry. Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Didn't even feel it.” Hi-Vo said hastily, his resounding voice humming with power as he scrambled to his feet.
“Get out my way, human. This doesn't concern you.” Gorgolla demanded, his voice the sound of grinding gravel.
“I hate to agree with ‘big ugly’ here but-”
Hi-Vo paused, and his glowing eyes widened as he leaned in to get a better look at you.
“Wait a minute. You're the old bag's grandkid, aren't you?” he asked, pointing a dark, sharp claw at your chest.
“Uhh...yeah, I guess I am.” you said with a shrug.
Hi-Vo chuckled.
“Heh, yeah. I wouldn't be too thrilled about it either.”
A deep rumble shook you to your very core, then. A moment later, you recognized it as the sound of Gorgolla's growling.
“Then she sent you here to help this weakling banish me.” he said, leveling an accusatory glare at you.
“Yeah? Well this weakling's been cleaning your clock for the past hour.” Hi-Vo said, pointing a thumb back at himself.
“That would be an overly generous interpretation of your performance thus far.” Gorgolla observed.
“That's not what your mom said last night.” he shot back.
