He frowned in confusion, his eyes searching your mask for a hint to what might be going on.
“Just remember that you were the one who made this personal, and I’m only going to go as far as removing myself from your memories, as well as anything else that you aren’t supposed to know.”
His eyes went wide, and he opened his mouth to protest, but at that very moment, his entire body went rigid. A purple aura washed over him, and his gaze became unfocused and hazy. Slowly, he flopped back down on his bed and closed his eyes. Pandora was standing directly over him now, her wand pointed at his head.
You stood by and waited while she did her thing, neither of you speaking to the other so as to not break her concentration. You’d warned her about his mental defenses beforehand, but didn’t seem terribly worried about breaking through them.
After about an hour and a half, Hill replied to your message and informed you that she would be showing up to personally accept the prisoner. She gave you a time and a location, and you relayed this information to Pandora. You saw her silhouette nod slightly, but she didn’t so much as turn to acknowledge you.
Eventually, she was forced to stop and allowed you to start preparing for the prisoner’s transfer.
“I was able to erase his knowledge of your identity from his memories, but he still holds some lingering resentment towards your alter-ego. That will take some more thorough work to completely erase.” she reported, making her outline slightly more visible to you. “On the bright side, I managed to poke some holes in his knowledge of the Silvertongue’s whereabouts, and our deal with Miles Warren. He should be more inclined to keep it to himself, rather than using it as a bargaining chip while under Hill’s surveillance. I can get rid of the rest sometime later.”
There was no way that she didn’t know who you were at this point. It was more than a little frustrating, but…she didn’t appear to be making a huge deal out of it. She’d done you a huge favor by coming here to tamper with his memories, and you’d helped her out by keeping her in the loop and introducing her to Warren. The cloning process should continue without a hitch at her facility, with Hill being none the wiser.
“That’ll have to do for now. Thanks for doing this.” you said, sighing with both relief and exhaustion in equal measure.
“Thanks for letting me know about this one. He’s had some dangerous secrets tucked away in that twisted mind of his.” she replied, frowning down at him. “Let’s hope that Hill can keep a firm grip on him for at least a few years.”
“You think he’ll be able to break out?” you asked.
She nodded. “He’s clever and resourceful enough to crawl his way out of a cell. At the very least, he won’t target either of us when he gets out.”
You hoped that was true.
