“Land ho!” shouted the familiar voice of a prepubescent boy from up above. You all craned your necks to look up at him, and then trailed the path that his finger was pointing towards. And there it was.
A massive island with towering mountain peaks, unnaturally deep valleys, a jungle teeming with life, and some rather distinctive landmarks, such as a cove with a bizarre rock formation that greatly resembled a human skull.
“Neverland.” you breathed, not able to believe your eyes.
There was a moment of stunned silence that descended upon the entire group as you gazed in awe at the-
Your spider-sense flared into action, and you leapt back just in time to avoid a tentacle as thick as you were wide. It flopped against the deck in an attempt to drag you beneath the murky depths.
“Everyone get back!” you shouted, but there was no need. Everyone could see them now.
Massive tentacles reached out from beneath the water’s surface, stretching up until they nearly reached the mast in height. And then, without warning, the unseen sea beast slammed them onto the deck, causing the entire boat to rock violently. Your adhesive ability was the only thing that stopped you from falling over. You were honestly impressed that the whole boat hadn’t capsized from that hit. The Guess must be sturdier than you were led to believe.
“Drowners!” Pan shouted.
You directed your attention at the tentacles, only to find humanoid figures climbing over them and onto the deck. They were grotesque things, skin cracked and bodies bloated with gasses and fluids. Their clothing was tattered, and they had rusted weapons at their hips that still looked like they would be effective at killing.
You reached for your guns almost instinctively. And you would’ve shot, if not for the sharp pain in the back of your head telling you to dodge!
Your body jerked to the side just in time to avoid being snapped in half by a serpentine creature with a flat head. It hissed at you angrily, displaying a mouth full of too many needle-like teeth. It reared back to snap again, but it stopped all of a sudden, its whole body shuddering.
Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock.
Everything on the boat stopped moving all at once, looking unsure of themselves. You and your friends weren’t an exception to this. And all at once, everyone looked up to see Peter Pan, mouthing the words, doing his damndest to impersonate a ticking clock.
He frowned at you angrily. “Well don’t just stand there like a lump! Do something!” he shouted, pulling out his shortsword and dagger to meet the Drowners climbing up to meet him.
Understanding dawned on you then, and as a unit, you started to move. It was time to retaliate.
