The situation was dire as the onslaught continued. Within his transhuman mind the Astartes began to wonder and think about things that he could do. That for a moment a series of tasks that might either leave him to die or abandon his post to guarantee some form of victory.
But of these the Astartes did not choose either. As las fire scorched his armor it did not leave marks, for they were the legion whose armor was already blackened.
“HOLD THE LINE! DO NOT WAIVER!” declared the Astartes as he felt the force within him tighten.
He was not just an Astartes but a warrior of the 2nd Legion. It does not matter if their flesh is rendered or they experience death, they are to always complete the task that is given to them.
With a thought he quickly brought out his Volkite and with one hand began firing into the constructs that were fighting him. The Astartes sent a series of lasers through the metal hulls of the machines which turned the entire construct into a red mass of energy. Though with his fire the Astartes knew it was not going to be enough.
The attacks were relentless as these shots were carving deeply into his armor. The Astartes could feel as his flesh was scorched and wounds made. Behind him the Astartes who had taken a similar barrage earlier finally fell onto the ground as the wounds within his flesh made it impossible for his superhuman anatomy to keep him standing.
The moment after the bullets came into the Skitarii who lost one of their shields. Quickly four of them were killed before the others were able to drop on the ground against the onslaught. The next moment though an Acillian stood before them providing Lorch with covering fire in an attempt of draining the constructs of lives.
In the next moment the Skitarii began sending rounds into the ceiling above them as a small fire erupted through the air vents. The fire seemed to waiver as the fire failed to get any oxygen to encourage further burning.
In the next moment Lorch heard the crunching of metal as the Astartes that were on point got attacked by another of the melee oriented robots. He did not know what happened but his helm told the Captain that one of his Astartes was dead within the five seconds the two had contact with one another.
At a moment like this he wished he could use a grenade, but that was a foolish thing to do. The Mechanicum would kill him if they made any more damage than necessary to this structure and ultimately his Father would support it. He just needed to stand his ground and take on the onslaught!
