Both of you are still breathing heavily, your bodies covered in dirt and debris, but you can tell your partner is filled with as much pride as you are after your fight. You wished there was time to celebrate your reunion, or rather, your first meeting, alas you’ll just have to keep it short.
“We did it, good job,” you say with as much respect and gratitude you can. “Bro.”
Your new partner gives a short chuckle, before he’s cut off by a wince of pain. “Yeah, you too… bro.”
The both of you congratulate other now that the fight was over. Definitely your hardest fight, mentally and physically, but with the two of you together now, no fight will be too much. Not anymore. Still, the day isn't over yet. The soldiers were gradually closing in on you, there's still some time though, so you use it to consider what you're going to do. You want to talk to them, convince them to help you again. Which reminds you, they said Amane had died. Sorrow and guilt rush you, filling your body with a deep bitterness. Sensing a shift of moods from you, your partner pats you on the arm.
"What's wrong?"
Finding the right words was difficult, especially now. You know how much finding Amane meant, so you didn't want to bring her up now, only to reveal her demise. Thus, you considered your words carefully.
"A woman I was protecting... she's gone. I failed to keep her safe."
"You know for sure? Did you check?"
"No I... they told me."
"Do you trust them? Who are they?"
You feel your mental gears shift. That's right, a voice in your head is adamant that Seesan is a traitor, and you remember something else. It was Seesan who had delivered the news about Amane's death. You can't imagine he executed her himself with the other two watching, if they were still on your side anyways. While Henry had something of a short fuse, you don't sense true malice in him. Tyri, likewise, also seemed to lack such a murderous heart. As for Seesan himself?
Putting a finger to your chin, you recall your interactions with him. He purposefully showed the others where you were leading them, never putting up any opposition, despite being a higher ranked soldier. Seesan also took great interest in the signal that brought you here, along with why you made your sudden decisions. Perhaps too much interest.
he also knew what your equipment was called. Tyri mentioned how antennae hadn't existed in centuries, he could identify your 'V' shaped wires instantly. By name no less. It was never a topic of conversation, it's literally impossible for anyone else to know. You're not sure what Cain told everyone about your power source, but you have the sneaking suspicion that she didn't mention it, making Seesan even more suspect in your memories.
