“Based on my words you have already realized the matter of our employment. These weapons, which do not leave a piece of the enemy remaining are prefered.” The Astartes began to lay the basis of their tactics in full view, “However because such weapons are used we cannot employ the same measures of mobility as our brothers. Thus we have adjusted 1st Legion Fire Guard Doctrine to our weapons and their use.”
“An understandable adjustment. Even ones as strong as yourselves cannot move around with such large pieces of equipment easily.” TalOS pointed out with the understanding of a field marshall.
“As such we have prefered the enemy come towards us. As the Imperial Fists need heavy weapons operators for their fortresses I found our Doctrines more compatible than others.”
“I see, as you destroy the enemy whose weapons would harm the Fortress the Imperial Fists will slaughter all the others.”
“Indeed, but we have no issue turning our attention to those on the lower walls or clearing the Corpses. Upon my command my brothers will point their weapons down in such a way that it prevents structural damage. Upon my next declaration all that would do us harm no longer exists.”
TalOS studied his son as he spoke those words. He watched as his son’s eyes seemed to unfocus themselves into a memory that was being played before him. Such an emotion he was likely feeling must have only intensified as the Astartes had perfect recollection similar to TalOS himself.
There was a small moment where TalOS realized something was there. Something he needed to know, “How do you feel when you personally operate with such weapons?”
“My apologies Father, but how does that relate to doctrine?”
“Like I said I am here on a break; so I am not pressed for time. If you do not wish to give me such information I shall leave you to it.”
The Astartes seemed stunned for a moment as he tried to figure out what was given to him. His face, for a moment, looked to begin contorting and moving itself from one side to another. It was when TalOS made a motion with his hand that the man finally spoke, “It is satisfying Father. To know that within your hands is a weapon that can erase the very earth itself is a feeling we cannot compare with other Legions. Only the seventh understand such sentiments and allow us such indulgence.”
TalOS knew it was not only the Seventh that would agree with him, but every single Princep that dared operate a God Machine. That with the power of the Machine God one can lay down an entire continent was a feeling TalOS knew his brothers Horus and Leman never once felt.
