Over the next few days, things settle down. You get a heroic welcome back with your friends and coworkers at the school, but thankfully, it doesn't last too long. You have new duties to attend to, mostly on the computer and special training classes learning about cutting edge weapon systems, but you still go to the normal school and attend its schedule. You still work in the fabricator bay after school, and like the physical training with your friends, and maybe, you think privately, the Hegemony wants all these young people crammed together to form more young couples and stuff like that.
You wave as you enter the school for another day, attending a class or two, and then going to the lunch hall. But something is a little different this time. Given your newfound popularity, people asking about your new job and your golden band on your arm, you no longer just as quickly sit down with your old friend group.
"Come sit with us Hoik!"
<span class="mu-r">"Yeah, you didn't forget your closest friends after you became a big hero, right?"</span>
"No no, come sit with us!"
This time, you pass by the table that the most popular Vetucker girls sit at. Always together in a group for protection and along with their herding instincts, you are shaken from your pre-lunch stupor when one speaks to you.
"Hi Hoik. Would you like to sit with us?"
The female Vetuckers, always ignoring you before, suddenly inviting you over! Perhaps because of your honors, new position, and growing popularity you've suddenly entered their radar as the local "big man", no longer the Jaxtian bully. Being accepted by them is a big deal; after all, they're always found together in their big group. Well, all except one.
<span class="mu-g">"Ehh, sorry ladies, but I already have someone else I plan to sit with today."</span>
