"Grabbing dinner."
You stop by Pizza Palace and for once park in the front. You walk in and hear loudly.
"Hey!"
You look at the counter and see her, Banks' stalker ex-girlfriend. You give her a polite nod and look around but sadly nobody else is at the counter. You prepare yourself internally and walk forward.
"Hey." You say quietly.
"Hey." She replies back, she seems in a much better mood. "Getting some food?"
"Yeah, I was hoping to get a Large pepperoni with sausage and bacon."
"A lot of meat."
"Sharing it with a real carnivore." You joke, the air between you both is brittle as glass.
"I'm not crazy you know." She says tapping the screen.
You let out an internal sigh, here it goes. You decide the best answer is to just go for your wallet and maybe pretend you didn't hear her.
"He gave me a promise ring in middle school. We dated for five years." She continues, looks like the silent treatment didn't work.
"I dated my high school sweetheart for about six.' You say offering your card to her. She swipes it from your hand, quickly but without aggression.
"Well we're different. We were basically like, tailor made for one another. You ever been with someone who just, made everything better?" She pulls on your receipt and hands it back to you. You open your mouth to answer but she continues. "I mean, life was so easy and fun with Anthony around. Now it's just, colder I guess. Gotham wasn't my main idea for where I wanted to end up but his parents come from here and he likes to be close to them."
"I didn't know he had family in Gotham." You say sticking the card back in your wallet.
"He doesn't anymore." She says sadly. "His mom actually died when he was pretty young, something to do with the fact it was Mother's Day, he didn't talk about it much."
"I, uh, understand why." You say, trying to think of anything to get out of this.
She nods and then her bubbly personality rushes back as she gives you a wave. "Your pizza is gonna be done in about ten minutes, wanna grab a seat? I haven't taken my break yet."
"Sorry, I have a work call to take outside."
"Being a policeman seems so hard." She says leaning on the counter. "Anthony never has time to talk to me either." She looks up at you with something devious in her eyes. you watch as she scribbles on a bit of torn receipt paper and sticks it towards you.
"Put my number in your phone and send me a text. Maybe if I ever need to talk to someone and Anthony is too busy, you'll be free?" She asks it like a question but you doubt she means it as one.
