A short history of departure:
In the Emerald year 1485, the dwarf hold of Ked-Ke-Gat fell to invading goblin armies from the lowlands. Recent recovered texts reveal that it had first started with raids on above ground farming settlements and exposed quarries. All signs indicate that due to the “Kings” inability to retaliate properly, the raids grew bolder and bolder until a horde had amassed before the very gates of the city. Something that would have been unthinkable just a hundred years prior, in the years of the true Emerald King. Call for reinforcement fell on deaf ears, as the mountain holds continued to squabble among themselves. Soon the city was breached, and many civilians were left to fend for themselves as the warrior throngs were recalled to defend the throne and horde. [See appendix B p.741]
Ruins of tunnels, and paved roads leading out of the city indicate that several clans had expected the cards to fall as such, and had taken it on themselves to secure a way out long before the horde ever reached the city.

Clan Ingred
Clan Ingred was a well off clan of bakers and artisan bakers. Although not a guild clan, they had almost achieved the status prior to the death of the previous King in the Emerald year 1385 and the subsequent economic crash that followed. Sensing the possibility of catastrophic clan collapse due to goblin, they financed a secret escape tunnel which they would ultimately be used to flee the city. Unfortunately, being honorbound to the king ment that many, but not all, of the clan’s warriors were drafted into the desperate king's army.

Clan Mordken is a clan of surface farmers that fled to the city during the goblin raids. Being in good relations with clan ingred, due to being their main supplier of wheat and cheese, they found shelter in their hospitality. When Clan Ingred fled the city, the remains of clan Mordken went with them.

Not all clans have professions or guild backing. Some make a living how they can, usually as hired hands for construction projects, seasonal farm work, temporary military duty, or simply as hullers. Many of these small clans will eventually get absorbed into bigger clans, but that is not always the case. Some professionless clans manage to grow big enough to become self-sustaining. Clan Kombree is one such clan. Some members of this clan were temprarys hired by clan Stormstout to help build the escape tunnel. Clearly, they had no qualm about using the tunnel to escape with their benefactors.
