>>5481574Scratching at his stuble and zoning out the argument between two lovebirds of the battalion, Wester began studying the map in detail. The town of Kobberhus lay on a small hill, a strong defensive location that dominated the local area, all centered around the old castle grounds. He'd been there before, passing through when he was transferred east a few years back when the Twayrian saber rattling began in earnest. Back then he'd never had the time to visit the castle in person, the thought of having to demolish it's walls or gates saddened him greatly. He hoped it could be taken with mostly intact, though it's unlikely the Bat-Ears would surrender such a defensible location without a fight; especially since it is the most likely location of any command elements left in this sector of the front.
Another itch, this time underneath the chin. He scratched at it in slight irritation. He needed a shave, another few days like this and he might start enjoying the sensation. After the town was taken, there would be time. But not until then.
Glancing over the surroundings of the town, he nodded thoughtfully to himself. This was good, plenty of space to make use of the entire battalion's strengths.
Having ceased an outlying village the Dragoons were in excellent position to begin their assault on the town proper, the forest and the slope providing the neccessary cover on the approach.
To the North lay open fields that stretched as far North-By-Northwest as the eye could see. A Tanker's Paradise. The armored units would be able to move unhindered and at speed to envelop the town and sieze the railway stations without delay.
To the South East, on a crossroad lay a small village much like the one fought over in the previous battle. It would serve as the strongpoint for halting any enemy counter attacks.
Satisfied with his own strategic conclusions, Wester spoke up:
"Gentlemen, I believe I have the beginnings of a plan for this operation." Picking up pebbles from the forest floor, Wester began placing them on the map to serve as makeshift unit indicators.
"The main assault will come from the Center and be a directed thrust towards Kobberhus Castle. A majority of our Dragoons can advance almost unopposed up to the town limits through the forests, using the slopes as cover. A preceding bombardment of these two locations will destroy any forward Twayrian positions and allow for swift entry into Kobberhus itself." Moving the pebbles up the hill to symbolize the advance, Wester turned to the Left flank next.
"While the assault is ongoing, our armored elements, supported by a platoon of Dragoons will advance up the road towards the railroad junction with the intent to envelop the city, thus cutting off any last hope of the Twaryian command elements escaping the city." More pebbles being placed for emphasis.
"Meanwhile, the right flank will secure the Crossroads and hold it against enemy counter attacks attempting any eveloping action of their own."
