>>5879280>>5879317>>5880599>chivalric virtue>medieval fightI mentioned I watched Pillars Of The Earth a while back, it juxtaposes both an idyllic medieval feel with a believable historicity, vaguely set around the White Ship / The Anarchy / King Stephen, Matilda/Queen Maud Battle Of Lincoln 1141 era.
From a narrative and dramatic perspective I was quite captivated by this very minor and pathetic fight scene in the tv series.
The background here is that a cruel noble is attempting to rescind the grant of use for a stone quarry from the king to stonemasons who are building a cathedral.
One of the apprentices attempts to duel the sneering noble's men-at-arms for the right to resume use of the quarry. Suffice to say, it does not go too well hehe. I quite liked this scene because there is a subversion of dramatic audience expectation it depicts believably what would happen as opposed to say if this were a dnd HEROIC QUEST??? amzn Wheel Of Time adaptation lol or Tad Williams novel protagonist (I do actually like Tad Williams).
Maybe this tv series convincingly captures the low fantasy medieval adventure atmosphere better
