>>6245912Adeline was right about one thing. People like Alexander and Elric really painted a different impression of this whole thing. Idiots who travelled all the way from Fodlan to simply serve as fodder for the bigger fish. You wondered how many of those foolish men lost their lives out here. Or how many had the same sense Adeline did, to quit while they could still keep their dignity. It was safe to say that anyone who’d actually made it to Morfis would be noteworthy. You expected that any battles against contenders from here on out would be more similar to Klement than they were to Alexander.
>“I see. Well, it's good that you finally came to your senses. Though I don’t know why it took so long. I told you when we first met that I would be the one to win. You could have saved yourself some trouble. But what now? How do you plan on restoring your family name?”Adeline takes a deep breath. She looks as though she’s been practicing what she was about to say out here for hours. For a second, you think she’s mustering the courage to propose to you, before she finally speaks.
“I would like…to continue serving you, Tristain. As your knight.”
>“My knight?” You laugh. “I don’t exactly have the power to go knighting people, you know?”“Not yet, but when you become King of Morfis, you will.” Adeline says, practically quivering in her boots. That she used the word when and not if pleases you greatly. “I want to serve as you and Princess Yulia’s Royal Guard. Your most trusted and loyal shield. T-there may be those who wish to do you both harm. That will not look kindly upon a foreigner sitting on the throne. I pledge to safeguard you both.”
>“Really? And you believe that will restore your family honor?”Adeline nods shakily. “No one from House Rowe has done anything substantial in over 20 years. For a member of our family to rise to the rank of personal guard to the King…and a King of a powerful foreign nation at that. I believe it will.”
Hmm. You told May you’d make her a Royal Advisor. You planned to keep Bronte as your Prime Minister as well. What good was being a King if you couldn’t give your friends positions of great power, whether they were qualified or not? At least you knew Adeline could definitely take an arrow for you.
