"Good morning! My name is Professor Chen, and I'm excited to be teaching this semester's Ethics course. Today, we will be discussing the topic of social justice. Now, I know some of you may think you know what that means, but I'm here to challenge you to think deeper. Social justice is not just about equality and fairness; it's about actively fighting against oppression and advocating for marginalized communities. It's about recognizing the systemic issues that exist in our society and working towards creating real, tangible change. So, let's dive in and explore the complex world of social justice together."
She proceeds to ask the class if they have witnessed any instances in the school that require a social justice intervention. A student, who is overweight, raises his hand and shares his opinion. "I think it's unfair that only the females and good crossdressers get the better food at lunch. It's discrimination and lookism!"
Professor Chen furrows her brow in response. "Discrimination and lookism? That's a serious accusation. Are you saying that you can't be a good crossdresser because of your weight?" The student nods his head, and she quickly retorts, "That's a lazy excuse. Being a good crossdresser has nothing to do with your weight. You have the same opportunity as anyone else to improve and excel in this art. Don't confuse laziness with injustice."
After the Ethics class, you head to the English class, which is much less eventful. You sit quietly, listen to the teacher and try to absorb as much as you can. When the class ends, you feel relieved that you have a break before the next one. You follow the stream of students to the cafeteria and are pleased to find out that today's meal is grilled fish with rice. Your stomach grumbles as you grab a tray and some utensils. You can't wait to finally get a decent meal. As you scan the cafeteria, you notice the teachers are sitting together at the same table and engaged in a serious discussion. Then, you feel a pang of anxiety as you see Mikhail approaching you, eyeing your grilled fish with interest.
