Your sensors search thoroughly, flickering between different modes. Aerial targets. That could mean anything from incoming enemy aircraft, to calling in a missile strike on you. Or some sort of fast response force.
Thermal picks up mech thruster flares. Much like your own, but on a lighter unit. The audio follows, only dampened slightly by the surroundings. Flight vector and speed match up to an aerial mech you saw from a distance.
As it does not have a reporting name, you give it Air Raider.
Considering your current armament, that is a sub-optimal matchup. Something fast enough to stay out of close range could make your melee weapon unusable. It could certainly be worse, though.
Then a second heat flare is picked up, following the first. 2 contacts. Their flight path is not directly over you, but it is close.
Annoying.
A quick survey of the terrain around gives you very little to work with. Wide open. A carpet of white, disturbed by a multitude of giant steps, and half turned to mud.
You suddenly miss the city environment. Or your stealth system.
The communications channel comes to life with a crackle.
“Contact! Tick mines! Back off!”
Mobile mines. Again. That’s not something that would be carried by flying units.
>Rush for the crashed MRV. You might be able to make it there before getting intercepted by the Air Raiders, and it’s the only likely source of real cover.
It all depends on when they detect you.
>Conceal. The skies are dark. Lower your emissions, cut power, and try not to be spotted.
Skill roll, for stealth.
>Attack. Take to the skies on Burning Eagle thrusters, and try to manage an interception.
With the way they draw power….You calculate you will have one chance.
Highly obvious. Attack roll, at Medium range.
