Now, it doesn’t take a leap of conjecture to surmise that the Fortress takeover, the attempt on Jeraha’s life, AND the attempted burglary of the Dragon’s Roost are all connected…but to what end, I couldn’t say.”
Francine’s mouth is half-open with something to add before it’s shut by the door to the Dream team’s room nearly flying off its hinges. Johanna emerges from the doorway in a huff, pausing in her frustrations to gently close the door behind her before stomping over to the table. She takes a breath, folds her hands behind her back, and addresses you with a long-suffering sigh before she tells you what this is all about.
“We’re…close. To some kind of resolution.” She informs you irritably, though her words mean little to clarify just what the hell’s going on here. Your confusion must be evident even on your recently-changed features, because it’s with a few deliberate intakes of breath that the powerfully-built young woman finally elaborates. “We sensed that you had an influx of Dream Daughters. Holly and Uzu wanted to help. So we’re on hour…ten? Twelve? Twelve, yeah. Dream-hour twelve of parsing through the newcomers. You look great by the way. Love the new look. Very sleek.”
“Oh, uh…thank you.” You reply, taking a moment to admire the other woman’s new chitin pauldrons before focusing on the matter at hand. “But I was planning on addressing them all when I had a spare moment.”
“…With all due respect? Fifty Dream Daughters take more than a moment to settle in.” Johanna replies. “We’ve been working in shifts, with Holly and I on one side of the conflict with B’ni and Uzu tackling the other.”
“Wait, conflict?” You echo, and the taller girl nods firmly.
“Turns out there are a couple factions at play, with both fighting over hunting grounds. It’s…been a lot. Not going to lie. But I think we’ve finally got it under control. Oh, and one other thing.” She says, addressing the table at large. “Turns out a few of the head honchos in Shu’s recent additions had been contacted by our mystery-woman. Sounds like they were trying to set up the same deal as the girls that Sam iced. None of them took the bait, though.”
Burglary. Assassination. Sabotage. Human trafficking. A litany of crimes against you and yours on the one hand, and the Cord weighing heavy on the other.
It’s a hard call, to decide which way the balance shifts.
