>>5372830>>5372826>>5371367In a nigh-forgotten tide pool on a shady shoal of the island, there is an entirely different story.
An entire colony of Exissuf Crab eggs were swept away by the ocean and left unattended on an untouched paradise. There were plenty of food sources, but the new crabs would have to work harder to cover more ground than their predecessors. Over generations, a third eyestalk developed so that ambulating with their eyestalks was less stressful on them. They also took on a strange light green-beige color that almost serves as camouflage against rocks and sand, but not quite.
Most important to note in this species is their unique social habits. Part of Dab Crab culture is to lower your middle eyestalk to the ground, and anoint the sky with your other two eyestalks. They do this literally all day when they aren't walking, reproducing, or eating with their eyestalks. Some postulate that this is to let the hot island sun sanitize their filthy "feeler" eyestalks, while their central "pivoting" or "sight-focused" eyestalk remains wet, and the ocular appendage within remains capable of hunting for food and mates, remaining vigilant for predators.
Get dabbed on, other crabs.
