You’ve spent enough time here“Ah–I’ve one last question.” You raise. “That girl in black–she died in the last block and lost her memories at an incomplete shrine there. If she were to, perhaps, resurrect at a complete shrine–might that restore her memory?”
“Well.. I’m afraid not.” The skeleton bows his head. “A SHRINE resurrects by the magic of the immortality spell that pervades this dungeon, and it uses that magical power to resurrect the dead. But an incomplete shrine–a broken one–cannot harness the full extent of its power, so in turn, it takes from the body to fill in the gaps. The only reason she’s alive is the loss of her memory. They aren’t locked away in her mind, but seized from her to bring her back.”
“Then do you know of a way to restore lost memories?” You prod him.
“Well.. you’d need a powerful mage with an intimate familiarity of the immortality spell.” Yorrick shrugs. “Though.. who knows who you might find in the CORPSE?”
“..Very well. I’ll be off, then.” You turn from the merchant. “Farewell.”
“Bone voyage.” The skeleton winks. “And with luck.. I won’t see you again.”
[...]
“Done, then?” Ava folds a hand over her rapier. “Then.. let’s depart.”
You follow after the DHAMPIR–whilst the BERSERKER and DOLL remain close at your side, the AUF ARSENE keeps a significant distance from your party at the rear, a hand on her rifle and her blade.
The dark of the door out of the shrine opens to the CORPSE. The chill of a cool, affable breeze, the verdant scent of cut grass. The field of flowers glow amidst the dark, stars in the dark sky above and beneath your very feet. The sea of stars is dotted with grey stone graves and bent swords. And far, off in the distance, stands a tall, dark tower.
“My–it’s..” The doll breathes behind you.
“Here we are. The CORPSE.” The dhampir sighs as she motions toward the scene before you. “..And there, in the distance.. the final block of the CATACOMBS. The lich’s domain. The MISERICORDE.”
