“Morne was my mistake. I only thought to give him some hope, but you see what’s become of him. That beast that lies dead with a bullet through the guts.” Ingrid shrugs. “But, whence Morne’s memory is taken, he will return to the surface and tend to his daughter. He’ll let her die. And, as time passes, he might hope to grow better. He’ll remember her fondly. As I do with my mother. That will never happen to Ava.”
“..What? What are you talking about?” You glance back down to your party, who amass by the throne’s stairs’ base.
“Do you think she comes here every few years to pick flowers? She takes this pilgrimage in memory of her father. She risks countless gruesome deaths down here in some desperate attempt to honor his memory. And you know how long it’s been since his death? Just about 200 years. How many times has she come here, I wonder?” Ingrid grimaces. “For her, his death still pains her just as much as it did centuries ago.”
“So, what? You intend to rob her of her memories because you think it’ll ‘help’ her?” You echo in disbelief. “Don’t you think she ought to have a say in that?”
“I tell her and she’ll only cling harder. How long do you think it’ll take her to naturally overcome it? Another 300 years, 700 years? Or will she carry this grief to her deathbed? Ava’s admit to me before she’s thought to throw herself on the sword, such is her misery.” Ingrid glares. “Like I said, I only want to bring things back to the way they were. You allow Ava to keep those memories with her and it’ll continue to eat her alive.”
“If you’re done..” The lich cuts into your conversation. “..I see that watch for those memories as a fair trade. You have anything to say, blue blood?”
