For once, Callisto didn’t scowl back at him. Instead, she slowly approached Gordy, not bothering to drop the weapons that she undoubtedly had stashed away on her person.
“When I was younger, my powers manifested out of nowhere and…ruined my life. I had it all back then. Money, good looks, and a decent shot at being a pro-tennis player.” she said, rubbing her wrist thoughtfully. “Point is, I became a freak, and I started living in the sewers because I didn’t want the world to look at me. I joined and led a community of mutants down there, and I haven’t looked back ever since.”
“Y-you live…in the sewers?” Gordy asked, clearly perplexed by the notion. “W-why would you do that? It sounds filthy.”
Callisto grinned at that. “Oh, believe me, it can be! But it’s also home to a lot of good people, and I want to protect that for them. Everyone needs somebody, no matter how much they might say otherwise. Even someone like me, who went down there to be alone, I ended up trading one family for another.” she said, her tone light and conversational. “And do you know what one of the most important parts of my job is?”
Gordy shook his head.
“It’s teaching people how to use their powers.”
Gordy seemed to glance down at his hands fearfully, but Glass cut in before he could say anything.
“Mutants need control if they want any type of agency out of their lives. I knew a girl up there who could kill people with a touch, and she had zero control over her powers. Had to wear gloves all the time.” Glass said. “But that doesn’t have to be you. You don’t have to hide from people or live in fear of your powers. If you can master them, control how much power you put out with your wind blasts, learn how to limit yourself in everything that you do, then you’ll be much better off for it.”
Gordy gripped his hands so tightly that you were certain he was digging bloody crescents into his palm.
“I don’t w-w-want to hurt people…!” he sobbed, tears rolling down his plump cheeks as he dropped to his knees. Peter was there in the blink of an eye to catch him, pressing his head against his shoulder and stroking his head gingerly.
Despite his small stature and immature nature, you couldn’t deny that he gave off the impression of a proper older brother in this scenario.
You all watched and waited until he calmed down. When he finally did, Peter scooped him up like a sack of potatoes and floated up into the air.
“I’m going to drop him off to be with the other Lost Boys. He needs his brothers.” he declared.
No one protested.
“Where should I meet you?” he asked.
>Back where Grover’s trail split off. You want to go after him next.
>Follow him back to the Lost Boy’s fort. You want to keep an eye on this kid.
>Use Peter’s map to find one of the other kids’ locations.(Piccaninny Tribe/Black Castle/Pixie Hollow)
>Write-in.
