...Well, time to find out.
I went wandering the town. Eventually, I found my way into one of the cafes that were open around the arrival platforms and areas surrounding Oakville's train stations. The chime of a bell on the door rung when I entered, and a barista smiled at me and told me to take a seat anyway. I sat at the bar and took in a whiff of the freshly baked goods put out on display. Bagels, doughnuts and truffles. I passed the time over a cup of hot tea I ordered and fabricated the Reichmarks to pay for, watching the television above the counter as it played the news. Local news.
[[ "---this evening as a bridge collapsed on the reichsautobahn nine in Peninsula North as a result of a sinkhole that happened due to a heavy precipitation downpour and flash flood. Officials cite that no serious injuries occurred on the scene, but one car carrying a family traveling from Oakville was caught in the disaster. All passengers and the driver are presumed dead. Search efforts are ensuing to see if anyone can be recovered before officials begin discussing repairs and costs, an estimated nine million Reichsmarks job to---" ]]
I lowered my head at that.
Another one...
My attention shifted then to the tap on the counter made in front of me. The Barista was looking at me as she finished cleaning one cup more.
[BARISTA] "Not feeling the best? Long day?"
'Oh, I've just been a bit... down on my luck lately is all. I thought I might get a breather coming to Oakville. This town always has such nice things to see.' I said back to her.
[BARISTA] "Heh. I've heard some say that Oakville's nothing but trouble sometimes. At least at night, then you have the youngsters getting out of hand. Fools go around to play like fools, it's the normal."
'Mm. I only tend to go out at day. Besides, there's not a lot of visibility at night for places like the... boardwalks and piers. I like looking out around over the water.'
[BARISTA] "Now there's the way to go. Hm, and if you like the piers, you must like fishing too, I would assume?"
'Well, it's not my favorite. But I suppose I'd do it if I were out in the woods, or just wanted something to fry.'
[BARISTA] "Well, you should check the pier out tomorrow, there's a fishing contest going on. Lots of Shengesian Bass flow in from the currents. Everything caught gets cooked and handed out once the winner gets declared."
'Interesting...'
I lifted my teacup to sip again.
'Say, are you from around here?'
[BARISTA] "Certainly. Oakville Town is where I was born, where I will die."
'Then, I don't suppose you could help one find something?'
[BARISTA] "I know the town like the back of my hand. What are you searching for, dear?"
