You said nothing. You just simply stepped out of the car and started walking away from it.
“Ben? What’s wrong?”
Van had undone her seatbelt and was climbing out of the car to follow you. Your lack of a response was worrying her, but you REALLY had to test something out real quick.
Using your newly modified webbing, you attempted to shape a sword without letting it detach from your wrist completely. The results were…less than ideal. The sword was too floppy and misshapen. It wasn’t nearly as easy as you would’ve thought. You only had a few seconds to fire it out of your wrist and shape it before the webbing stuck together. After that, rearranging it was unnecessarily hard. It was like decorating a cake with reverse gravity.
Van had caught up by now, and she was staring at your failed creation with confusion plain on her face.
“What are you doing?”
“Trying to make a sword. What’s it look like?”
Another failed attempt. This time, the sword was too long and thin. This’d break in a heartbeat if you actually tried to use it in a fight. Maybe it’d work as a half-decent rapier, but it wasn’t what you were going for.
“Are the Nega Bands allowing you to do this?”
“I think so. I sure as hell wasn’t able to do this before.”
Hmm. What if you used both hands to craft the blade, but only detached one of them after you were done with it. That might give you some more flexibility in layering the webbing.
The next time you fired your web, your hands blurred, and you hurried to craft and carefully layer the web sword before it solidified. Then, when you were satisfied with your product, you detached both weblines from your wrist. The long, sharp weapon was crude, and a bit more jagged than you would’ve liked, but it was still unmistakably a blade.
At your command, a pale, ghostly flame traveled up your arm and ignited the blade! The fact that it didn’t melt straight away was impressive enough on it's own. Maybe that was an intended effect of your evolution. If so, then these had to be the smartest bracelets you’ve ever worn.
“Incredible…”
Van gasped, her eyes locked on the dancing flames engulfing your web sword. You laughed and gave the sword a few test swings. It was all you could think to do. This thing was so light…!
If you knew this would happen after putting these things on, you would’ve had them on you before you even thought about diving into that pit!
“I think I’m beginning to understand why women love jewelry so much!”
This changed everything. Now you actually had a proper way of slaying demons without spending all of your resources in one engagement. There was only one problem, though.
Compared to when you used your webbing in other ways, you could actually detect a noticeable drop in the web fluid stored in your arms. This was a neat trick, but if you used it too often, you could end up using up your daily reserve of webbing!
