Just then, another girl pulled up in Vic’s driveway with a mountain bike. She had short brown hair, brown eyes and was wearing light clothing that probably doubled as casual gym wear. She also looked to be of Southeast Asian descent, but that was just a guess.
“Sup.”
Wanda’s face brightened even more upon seeing the new girl. “Ari! You made it!”
“Yeah, well someone had to make sure that you wouldn’t hurt yourself.” Ari claimed, climbing off her bike and walking over to join her friend. She was noticeably taller than the others by a few inches.
“Well, you came just in time to help me and Cindy practice for cheerleading try-outs. She’s already pretty athletic, so we’re just working on our coordination.” Wanda said, gesturing at Cindy.
You sincerely doubted that Cindy needed anyone’s help with coordination, but she probably didn’t want others to know that.
Ari leaned over to glance at her and a huge grin spread across her face as she stepped past Wanda. “Yo! Is that THE Karate Kid? What’re you doing hanging out with this dork?” she asked, jabbing a thumb at an affronted Wanda.
“We’re roommates. I’m guessing you two know each other?”
“Oh, yeah. We go way back.” Ari explained.
“We’ve been competing since we were kids, picking up sports and trying to figure out who was better at what.” Wanda added.
“I was usually better at everything, though.” Ari claimed proudly.
“Uh, I think that football you took to the head during summer camp might’ve knocked some brain cells loose. I’m pretty sure I won most of those matches.” Wanda corrected.
“Keep dreaming, Barbie-”
You cleared your throat to remind everyone of your presence, and everyone fell silent so that they might acknowledge you once more.
Ari had an abashed look on her face as she stepped forward to offer her hand to you. “Oh, my bad. I’m Ari. Thanks for having us over, Mr…”
“Parker. Ben Parker.” you finished.
“Ah. Nice to meet ya, Mr. P.”
You gave her the most sincere smile you could muster. “Ben’s fine, actually.”
Ari gave you a sly grin and winked. “You got it, P.”
You really hoped that that wouldn't catch on.
