“That’s because you’re nearly the first one to arrive, darling.” A female voice echoed from behind a pillar. You flinched, quickly turning to locate the source. A girl, slightly younger than you, stepped out from behind a pillar. She had very light skin, long black hair, and an air of nobility in the way she spoke. A snobbish tone, in fact. Her attire accentuated that, it being that of a modified gala dress in white with cyan and lilac accents, combining the style of a royal princess with military undertones. It was tucked out and shortened in certain places, mostly the skirt and the exposed shoulders. An oversized flower hairpin rested beside her head. And on top of all that? A fur scarf that was… almost tinted white? Greenish? An in-between? It wasn’t… pretty.
“By the way… a kimono really doesn’t suit you. And utility belts are sooo old-school. Do they have you wear that as punishment? Or is the White Fang simply that inept when it comes to fashion?” A second voice, nearly identical to the first, came from behind you. From behind a broken concrete wall another girl emerged, almost identical in appearance. Maybe a little bit shorter. Her dress was black and red, and instead of opting for a militaristic style, hers was more focused on an absurd number of belts, buckles and metal spike in embarrassing places, all of this while showing too much skin. You had to avert your look out of second-hand embarrassment.
“Simplicity is part of the charm.” You wouldn’t step so low as to verbally defend your fashion choice with the pair of spoiled brats. Besides, it was obvious which one of the three didn’t look bad. And also, you weren’t exactly sure who they were.
“The Spiders, I take it? I expected more people to be here. What about the Wave? Or the Hana guild? And the Black Sheep? They sent the invitation, after all.” Tay interjected, smoothly changing the subject. Good move.
“Oh, handsome, if only you knew… don’t worry. They’ll arrive soon. Some of our agents already confirmed the presence of two important figures getting close. And, well… there’s that freak over there.” The girl in white gestured behind her, toward the continuation of the floor. It was too dark to see, the windows barely letting in any light.
“I… heard… that.” A raspy, hollow voice came from within the darkness. It sounded almost like it was spoken through a gas mask. Deep and robotic. No, mechanical was the better word. Guttural, as if someone was struggling to speak through a filter. You felt the hairs behind your nape stand up just by the creepy factor.
