“The Great Weaver’s power is wasted on you, worm.” the giant said in words so verbose that they alone were thrumming with power. This wasn’t just some big dude. This was something else. Your Spider-Sense was giving you a subtle, but constant mental prodding. The thing had an aura of menace about it. It was like watching a punch flying towards your face, but knowing that you could do nothing to avoid it.
“He doesn’t know any better, Khonshu. Leave him be.” Mr. Knight insisted, seemingly unaffected by this whole display. “Besides,” he continued. “If you scare her guardian half to death or harm him, then you are less likely to win her favor.”
The being known as “Khonshu” froze, then. His massive head shifted slightly to the side, and he saw Cindy silently pleading for him to have mercy. He then returned his gaze to you.
“See that it doesn't happen again,” he declared. “Or else I’ll possess both of you and kill him where he stands.”
“Well, actually,” you cut in. “I’m not technically standing…”
Khonshu whirled on you so fast that you thought he might strike you right then and there. You wanted to move out of the way, but found your body firmly rooted in place by some unseen force.
“Khonshu.” Mr. Knight said with the patience of a saint. “Do not forget what you yourself said about this one not too long ago.” he urged him.
“Well, I take it back! This one is unworthy of-”
“Keep in mind,” Mr. Knight interrupted him. “They are currently guests of the House of Shadows. If they are harmed, you will have to explain why we shouldn’t have our right of residency revoked.”
Khonshu gripped his staff so tightly that you could hear the fabric of his bandages grinding against the metal. He remained perfectly still for several long moments, before disappearing in the blink of an eye. Just like that, the room returned to its normal coloration, and bird-skull before you was now clear of any webbing that you might’ve added to the decrepit figure.
“Thank you.” Mr. Knight said to the thing. “I will see to it that this doesn’t happen again.” he promised.
Cindy breathed a sigh of relief, and you quickly found yourself doing much of the same.
“You know,” you began, rubbing at the side of your head. “Normally, I would just think that you were a regular madman. New York’s full of ‘em, you know? But after all that…I’m willing to believe that that thing is your God.” you accepted.
“I’m glad we’ve cleared that up.” Mr. Knight said.
