“Halt!”
A sudden voice makes the two workers freeze on the spot. Four armoured dwarves arrive to the scene, followed by George and his companion. The guard who spoke wields a spear and looks more imposing than the rest, who are armed with strange weapons consisting of a spiked metal ball mounted on a shaft.
The spearman gives Ruby a quick, uninterested glance before addressing Kholgarsh. “Greetings, Mister Sharpaxe.” He speaks with a reconciling tone you weren’t expecting. “Words reach our ears that you assaulted that servant after provoking you by accident. Is that true?”
Kholgarsh gives the injured rabbette a silent, annoyed look, but you’re almost sure there’s also a semblance of regret in it. He stares back at the guard and says nothing, keeping his head low to hide the furious scowl on his face.
“I’ll take that as a yes...” The interrogating man sighs, as if disappointed that he didn’t get a ‘no’ for an answer. “My apologies for the inconvenience, but all of you must come with us to testify.”
“Errr… even the gnolls?” one of the club-wielding men asks, giving you a skeptical look. “Sharpaxe says they murdered his… y’know. And they're probably gonna exacerbate the events out of sheer spite. Y'all know these creatures can't be trusted.”
“Hmmm…” The guard leader looks you up and down with disdain, then shakes his head. “Indeed, I see no point in them tagging along. The servant's word and all of the other witnesses will suffice.” He stares at Kholgarsh and smiles, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Let’s go, Sharpaxe. Hopefully we can solve this small affair soon.”
“Look at what you’ve done, stupid rabbit” one of the armoured men snarls at Ruby. “Poor guy is grieving for his sons, and you give him even more woes to deal with. Typical woman... all of ye are the same, furry or not.”
The servant tries to force a smile, but her quivering voice gives away that she’s holding back her tears. “M-my bad! Even the best servants c-can be kind of distracted sometimes, hehe… ooow…” A small moan of pain escapes her. She brushes the blood off her little nose, coating his entire hand in red.
“Oh, Hyeny…” Datz whispers next to you, sounding kind of frustrated. “How I wish I understood what they’re saying. It’s all gibberish to me…”
“We’re in the clear for now” you reassure her. “Don’t worry. I’ll tell you everything soon.”
